Boston Wedding Venues: Fairmont Copley Plaza, State Room and 12 More

Fourteen Boston wedding venues, from Fairmont Copley Plaza and Hampshire House to the 33rd-floor State Room, with Google ratings and 2027 sunset times.

October 14, 2026

Boston weddings live mostly indoors. The city is short on open lawns and long on hotel ballrooms, Beacon Hill townhouses, harbor rooms and a few converted buildings, and the weather gives you maybe five reliable months for anything outside. That shapes how a wedding here gets filmed: the ceremony and reception are usually under a ceiling, and the light question becomes where, and when, the two of you step outside. Here are fourteen venues couples ask us about, grouped by what kind of room they are, with the light for every month of 2027.

The light in Boston

Computed for the 15th of each month in 2027. The start time is sunset minus two hours and forty-five minutes, which leaves room for a ceremony, family photos and a portrait walk before the sun goes.

November1:37 PM3:40 PM4:22 PM9.8 h
December1:27 PM3:26 PM4:12 PM9.1 h

Boston sits at the far eastern edge of its time zone, so the sun sets early by the clock. A December sunset at 4:12 is not a typo, and it is the single most important number for a winter wedding here.

Historic rooms

Fairmont Copley Plaza is the one on this list we have filmed in, and it is the reference point for a classic Boston wedding: a grand hotel on Copley Square with gilded ballrooms. Rooms like this are beautiful on camera and hard on audio. Hard walls, high ceilings and a full room bounce sound around, so we put a recorder on the officiant and on whoever is giving toasts rather than trusting a room microphone. The light inside is warm and even once the evening sets in. The outside light is the square itself, a short walk away, which is where we take the two of you for ten minutes at golden hour.

Hampshire House overlooks the Public Garden, which is the best portrait location in the city sitting right across the street. A Beacon Hill townhouse means smaller rooms and more intimate coverage; one videographer can usually see the whole room, and the walk into the Garden is the obvious golden-hour plan. The Lenox, The College Club and The Tower are the same idea in different clothes: older buildings, period detail, and rooms that read as Boston on film without any help.

Converted and modern spaces

SoWa Power Station and Artists For Humanity are listed simply as dedicated wedding venues, so we will not describe rooms we have not seen. The general rule for a converted or open-plan space is that it photographs dark once the sun goes down. Plan for a videographer who brings and rigs their own lighting for the reception, and ask the venue what the house lighting can do before you book a DJ who wants it all off. The Catered Affair at the ICA puts the reception at the Institute of Contemporary Art on the Seaport waterfront, which gives you water for the portrait walk without leaving the building's doorstep.

Harbor and skyline

Boston Harbor Hotel is the waterfront choice in the classic hotel style. State Room is a 33rd-floor room with views over the city and the harbor. A high room like that changes the light math: you see the sunset later than the street does, and the last color in the sky lasts a little longer through the glass. It also means the window is behind most of your guests at some point in the evening, so we plan camera positions around it rather than shooting into it during toasts.

Outside the city

The Pavilion at Pinehills in Plymouth is a chandelier-lit tent with a rustic-chic ballroom, and Cold Spring Chapel is also in Plymouth. A tent is the most weather-dependent setup on this list. Wind moves fabric and carries sound off the microphones, rain is loud on canvas, and an evening tent needs to be lit as deliberately as any ballroom. In exchange you get open sky and real trees for portraits, which the city venues have to borrow from the parks.

What a videographer needs to know in Boston

Three things come up at almost every Boston wedding. First, the portrait walk is usually a walk, not a drive, and it should be timed against the table above rather than against dinner service. Second, the big hotel rooms are loud, and the vows and toasts need their own recorders. Third, foliage season brings early sunsets: a mid-October ceremony at 3:17 is what the table suggests, and couples who push it to 5:00 should expect the portrait time to be after dark or done before the ceremony.

What we would do

A June wedding at Hampshire House: ceremony at 5:30, family photos inside, then into the Public Garden at 7:40 for golden hour and back for dinner by 8:15. Our 8-hour collection covers it from getting ready through the first hour of dancing.

An October wedding at Fairmont Copley Plaza: first look in Copley Square at 2:30, ceremony at 4:00 indoors, family photos, and the two of you back outside at 5:24 for golden hour before sunset at 6:02. Add a second videographer for $500 if you want both sides of the aisle and the guest reactions in a big ballroom.

The full light table and every Boston venue page are on our Boston wedding videographer page. Our packages are priced the same at every venue, with no travel fees, and a $500 deposit reserves your date.
