Chicago Wedding Venues: Salvage One, Stan Mansion and the Light by Month
Thirteen Chicago wedding venues with Google ratings, from Salvage One and Loft Lucia to Galleria Marchetti, plus ceremony and sunset times for 2027.
October 14, 2026
Most Chicago weddings happen inside a brick building. The city's venue list is lofts, converted industrial floors, old club rooms and banquet halls, with a handful of garden patios and one or two rooftops. That shapes the film more than any styling choice: the windows decide when the room is bright, and the sunset decides when you need to be outside. Below are thirteen venues couples ask us about, grouped by what they are, and what we plan for at each.
The light in Chicago
Computed for the 15th of each month in 2027. The start ceremony column is sunset minus two hours and forty-five minutes, which leaves room for a thirty-minute ceremony, family photos, cocktail hour and a portrait walk that lands in golden hour.
| Month | Start ceremony | Golden hour | Sunset | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 1:59 PM | 4:01 PM | 4:44 PM | 9.5 h |
| February | 2:38 PM | 4:44 PM | 5:23 PM | 10.6 h |
| March | 4:11 PM | 6:20 PM | 6:56 PM | 11.9 h |
| April | 4:46 PM | 6:53 PM | 7:31 PM | 13.3 h |
| May | 5:18 PM | 7:23 PM | 8:03 PM | 14.6 h |
| June | 5:42 PM | 7:45 PM | 8:27 PM | 15.2 h |
| July | 5:39 PM | 7:42 PM | 8:24 PM | 14.9 h |
| August | 5:05 PM | 7:12 PM | 7:50 PM | 13.9 h |
| September | 4:15 PM | 6:23 PM | 7:00 PM | 12.5 h |
| October | 3:24 PM | 5:31 PM | 6:09 PM | 11.1 h |
| November | 1:44 PM | 3:48 PM | 4:29 PM | 9.8 h |
| December | 1:35 PM | 3:35 PM | 4:20 PM | 9.2 h |
The spread is the thing to notice. A June couple has until almost half past eight. A December couple is losing the sun at twenty past four, which in a downtown street canyon means earlier still, because the buildings take the last of it before the horizon does.

Club and banquet rooms
Stan Mansion, the University Club and The Ivy Room are the formal end of the list. They are interior weddings first: the ceremony, dinner and dancing all happen under a ceiling, and the outdoor light only matters for the twenty minutes you step out for portraits. That makes them the safest choice for a November through March date. The video question in rooms like these is audio. Tall ceilings and hard surfaces carry every clink and footstep, so we put a lavalier on whoever is speaking and take a feed from the DJ or band for toasts rather than relying on a camera microphone.
Firehouse Chicago sits between formal and industrial. The building has the character, and the courtyard gives you a place to stand outside without leaving the venue.
Industrial and loft
This is the Chicago style, and it is the group we would steer a film-first couple toward. Salvage One is a 60,000-square-foot showroom of salvaged furnishings, which means every corner is a different set: old doors, lighting fixtures, wood, metal, glass. It is wonderful on camera and it is dark in places. We bring off-camera light for the reception and plan the getting-ready and portrait coverage near the windows while the daylight lasts.
Loft on Lake and Greenhouse Loft are the opposite problem. Skylights and big windows make the afternoon beautiful and then hand the room back to whatever lighting you bring once the sun is down. The look of the ceremony depends on when it starts, so the table above matters more here than at a ballroom. Greenhouse Loft's outdoor ceremony space is the one to use from May through September.
Loft Lucia has the rooftop, and a skyline rooftop is the most requested shot in Chicago. Two things we plan for: wind off the lake, which makes handheld microphones useless and veils unpredictable, and street noise from below. Vows on a rooftop need a lavalier on the officiant and one on a partner, and we would rather do the rooftop portraits at the golden hour time than hold the ceremony up there in the middle of a July afternoon.
Morgan's on Fulton and the other West Side lofts share one advantage: brick streets and warehouse facades are rarely more than a short walk away, which is where we take the portrait walk.
Garden and patio
Chicago's outdoor wedding season is roughly May through early October, and even then it is weather-dependent. Galleria Marchetti and Salvatore's both pair indoor rooms with an outdoor garden, which is what you want here: a ceremony outside if the day cooperates and a room ready if it does not. Pilsen Secret Garden, as the name suggests, is the neighborhood option in Pilsen. For any garden ceremony, the start time in the table is what keeps faces out of hard overhead sun. Start an August ceremony at 3:00 and everyone squints; start it at 5:05 and the light has already softened.
Outside the city
The Crawford in Naperville is for couples who would rather be out of downtown, with open sky that no tower is blocking to the west. Out there the horizon is lower, so the sunset in the table is closer to what you actually get.
A few things that are specific to Chicago
The lake makes its own weather. A spring or early summer day can be ten or more degrees cooler near the shore than a few miles inland when the wind comes off Lake Michigan, and it can turn in an afternoon. Summer brings humidity and fast thunderstorms. October is often the best month of the year here, with color in the trees and a 6:09 sunset that fits the day neatly. Winter weddings are lovely and almost entirely indoors, and they need a first look or a very early ceremony if you want any daylight portraits at all.
If you are deciding between photo and video, or both, our photo vs video guide lays out the tradeoffs, and the cost guide explains what drives price.
What we would do
A June wedding at Loft Lucia: ceremony at 5:40, cocktail hour while we do family photos, the two of you on the rooftop at 7:45 for golden hour, and the last skyline shots right at the 8:27 sunset. That is a full day, and the eight-hour Reverie collection covers it from getting ready through the first hour of dancing.
A December wedding at the University Club: first look at 1:00, ceremony at 1:35, a short walk outside by 3:35 while the light still has some warmth, and everything after that inside. Six hours is usually enough for a winter timeline that compact.
Every venue above has its own page with the sunset for that spot. The full table and our local coverage are on the Chicago wedding videographer page. Our packages are the same price at every venue, with no travel fees, and a $500 deposit reserves your date.
We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any venue named here; names identify where couples marry. Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027.
