Minneapolis Wedding Venues: Nicollet Island, Semple Mansion and 12 More
Fourteen Minneapolis and Saint Paul wedding venues with Google ratings, from Nicollet Island Pavilion to Semple Mansion and Quincy Hall, plus 2027 sunsets.
October 14, 2026
Minneapolis gives couples two very different weddings depending on the month. In June the sun sets after nine and the riverfront stays bright through dinner. In December it is gone by half past four and the snow is doing most of the work. The venues here are built for both: mansions and old stone rooms for the dark months, warehouses with patios and riverside pavilions for the long ones. These are fourteen we get asked about, and how we would film each.
The light in Minneapolis
Computed for the 15th of each month in 2027. Start ceremony is sunset minus two hours and forty-five minutes, which leaves time for the ceremony, family photos, cocktail hour and a portrait walk in golden hour.
| Month | Start ceremony | Golden hour | Sunset | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 2:12 PM | 4:11 PM | 4:57 PM | 9.2 h |
| February | 2:55 PM | 4:59 PM | 5:40 PM | 10.4 h |
| March | 4:33 PM | 6:40 PM | 7:18 PM | 11.9 h |
| April | 5:13 PM | 7:18 PM | 7:58 PM | 13.5 h |
| May | 5:50 PM | 7:52 PM | 8:35 PM | 14.9 h |
| June | 6:16 PM | 8:16 PM | 9:01 PM | 15.6 h |
| July | 6:11 PM | 8:13 PM | 8:56 PM | 15.3 h |
| August | 5:34 PM | 7:39 PM | 8:19 PM | 14.1 h |
| September | 4:39 PM | 6:45 PM | 7:24 PM | 12.5 h |
| October | 3:43 PM | 5:48 PM | 6:28 PM | 11.0 h |
| November | 1:59 PM | 3:59 PM | 4:44 PM | 9.6 h |
| December | 1:47 PM | 3:43 PM | 4:32 PM | 8.8 h |
Minneapolis sits far enough north that the summer evenings are noticeably longer than in most of the country. A June golden hour at 8:16 PM means the portrait walk happens after dinner, not before it.

Mansions and old rooms
The Van Dusen and Semple mansions are the classic Minneapolis winter wedding. They look the part in snow, and everything important happens inside. Semple Mansion's grand staircase is the shot couples remember: an entrance, a portrait, a wedding party photo, all in one place, and it works in December at 6 PM as well as it does in June. The challenge in a mansion is space. Rooms are smaller and more divided than a hall, so we plan camera positions for the ceremony ahead of time and keep the crew to two so we are not in the guests' sightlines.
Van Dusen has a courtyard, which gives a summer couple an outdoor option and a winter couple a five-minute snow portrait without leaving the property.
Hall of Kings and the River Room are smaller and warmer, with wood, stone and an intimate scale. For video, small rooms with hard stone walls are easy to light and harder to record cleanly; we mic the officiant and the speakers rather than trusting the room.
Nicollet Island Inn is a 19th-century hotel on the island itself, and pairs naturally with the pavilion down the road for couples who want to stay where they marry.
Industrial and warehouse
Quincy Hall is the one we would point a summer couple to if they want a big open room and an outdoor ceremony without the risk. Glass walls mean the daylight comes all the way in, and the large patio is the ceremony site from June to September. The same glass means the room goes dark at sunset and stays dark, so the evening needs proper lighting.
Hewing Hotel is a converted warehouse with a rooftop, which gives you skyline portraits without a separate trip. Rooftops in Minneapolis are a May through September idea, and even then wind is the thing we plan for in audio.
The Solar Arts Building and The Depot round out the industrial group. For any venue with exposed brick and high ceilings, the advice is the same: beautiful texture, echo for speeches, and a dark reception that needs lighting brought in.
Riverfront
Nicollet Island Pavilion sits on the Mississippi with both indoor and outdoor ceremony options. It is a summer venue first. The river, the old bridges and the downtown skyline are all within a few minutes on foot, and with a June golden hour at 8:16 PM there is time for all of them. In spring and fall, have the indoor option confirmed, because a riverside ceremony in a cold wind is hard on guests and on microphones.
Aster Cafe is a restaurant with skyline views and a courtyard in summer, a good fit for a smaller wedding that wants the riverfront without the size of the pavilion.
Modern and skyline
Mosaic Venue has a balcony with skyline views and Urban Daisy is bright and airy by design. Both are blank-canvas rooms that let the decor and the light do the talking, and both are good choices for couples who want clean, modern frames on film.
Saint Paul
The Commodore is a Jazz Age-inspired restaurant in Saint Paul. A period room like that films beautifully once the evening lighting is planned. It is a natural fit for an evening wedding in winter.
What Minneapolis weather means for the camera
Snow is a gift on film if you plan for it: bright, clean backgrounds and soft light, but cold batteries, fogged lenses moving between the cold and a warm room, and wet hems. We bring spares and give lenses a few minutes to adjust. Summer brings humidity and evening insects near the water, so for riverfront ceremonies we keep the portrait walk short. Spring arrives late and can still bring snow in April.
What we would do
A June wedding at Nicollet Island Pavilion: ceremony on the river at 6:15, family photos and cocktails, dinner at 7:30, then the two of you along the river at 8:16 for golden hour and the last frames at the 9:01 sunset. That is an eight-hour day.
A December wedding at Semple Mansion: first look and portraits by 1:00, ceremony at 1:47, a short snow portrait outside around 3:45, then the staircase entrance, dinner and dancing inside. Six to eight hours, depending on the dancing.
Every venue above has its own page with the sunset for that spot. The full table and our local coverage are on the Minneapolis wedding videographer page, our packages are priced the same at every venue with no travel fees, and a $500 deposit reserves your date.
We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any venue named here; names identify where couples marry. Ratings and review counts are Google's as of our last check and will change. Sunset and golden-hour times are computed for the 15th of each month in 2027.
